Switching your business from ISDN to SIP made easy
January 13, 2015 by Omar Sohail,

Integrated Services for Digital Network or ISDN used to be a communication standard for businesses as it was capable of transiting data packets necessary for voice, data, video and other networks services over the traditional circuits of the public switched telephone network.
Now, SIP Trunking has become the universal communication standard since its features and other perks have a clear advantage over ISDN. However, if business owners are still reluctant to switch over to the new form of communication technology, they will be please to know that switching from ISDN to SIP is much simpler than rumors would have them believe.
Lower call cost advantages
SIP trunk providers such as Wavetel are able to offer lower call costs compared to ISDN providers, making the switch from ISDN to SIP a ‘no brainer’ move. Even though the costs can vary on a case by case basis, the lowest charges are normally offered to business owners whose businesses are delivering the highest call volumes.
Since in today’s world, there is overwhelming levels of competition, businesses and the employees who strive who help the business succeed need to be making constant and immediate communication with clients and customers in order to snare more customers and keep the existing ones satisfied. In such a situation, SIP trunks provides the better platform switchover.
Free call routing between different business sites
For business owners who view costs to be number one factor to be the detriment of the progressing of business, the following feature belonging to SIP trunking will benefit them greatly.
Business owners need to know that if the businesses are present at different geographical locations, then nearly all SIP providers offer calls that can be made from different site locations and that too, without charging a single dime.
If this perk does not compel the business owner to make the switchover from ISDN to SIP, then we don’t know what will.
Scalability
Looking at the size and work capacity of the business, SIP Trunks are extremely flexible and can easily be assimilated to the business according to the level of scale that the business is operating on.
In this way, a business can actually scale up or down the number of trunks that are needed in order to run the business communication part as efficiently as possible. When this feature is compared to ISDN; ISDN is not scalable and occasionally, business owners might have to provision new ISDN lines that can mount to 20 channels at a time, which might be far more than the business requires, but then again, business owners will be looking to future-proof themselves by incurring extra costs.
When SIP Trunking is in play, they do not have to worry about future-proofing their business as the platform will be doing it for them.
Portability of numbers
If business are connected to the PSTN via ISDN, then business owners would know the amount of frustration they have to bear from time to time due to the fact that they will be unable to keep the same telephone number if they move outside of their local exchange area.
However, if the business is connected to the PSTN via SIP, then neither employees nor business owners will be running in to this issue ever again.
There you have it! Switching from ISDN to SIP is not only the most simplest thing to do when making a communication platform switchover, it is also the most resourceful when you want to add elements such as additional cost cuts and efficiency in to the equation.
